Book Signing & Drug Abuse Presentation:
A presentation on heroin abuse and prescription drug abuse in Waushara County will be held at the Wautoma Public Library on Tuesday December 11th at 3pm. Also at this event Sally Wesner will have copies of her book ( co-authored with Barbara Fitz Vroman) “Jeff’s Story: Prescriptions for Life or Death” available for purchase and signing. Sally’s heartfelt book was written in honor of her son, a former police officer, who struggled with prescription drug addiction. Jeff’s story makes personal some chilling national statistics. According to the CDC, in 2007 there was a death every nineteen minutes from unintentional drug overdose. In 2008, there were 14,800 prescription painkiller deaths. For every death there are 10 treatment admissions for abuse, 32 emergency department visits for misuse, and 130 people who abuse or are dependent. In 2010 according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration a survey came back in which more than 12 million people reported using prescription painkillers non-medically. Prescription drug abuse can also lead to heroin abuse, a serious problem in our area. Please join us for this important discussion.
