Memory Maker Kits
Funding for this project came from the Waushara County Department of Aging, the National Family Caregiver Support Program, and the Wautoma Public Library.
Family Caregivers take on so much: cleaning, cooking, managing medications, doctor appointments, finances, etc. It is a beautiful and fulfilling role, whether it is a couple of times a week or around the clock. It can be physically and mentally exhausting. To ensure proper care for your loved one(s), taking time for yourself to relax or get the “to-do” list off your mind is crucial. Our Memory Maker Kits have activities to assist with this or to provide quality time spent together.
What are our Memory Maker Kits?
Our kits include activities that are specifically designed to offer engagement independently with set up or oversight given by the caregiver. Once set up, the caregiver has the opportunity to accomplish other tasks or indulge in self-care. Kit contents provide an opportunity for stimulation, increase verbal exchange with others, and allow stories and life experiences to be exchanged.
Who are the kits for?
Anyone can use them! The kits are designed for people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other physical issues so they can participate in an activity that is familiar. Use the contents of the Kit to modify to the care recipient’s ability and interest. Instructions and ideas are included for each of the activities. The kits provide improvement in the quality of life and can aid in reducing behaviors such as restlessness and wandering.
Where do I use the kits?
Use the activities within your home setting, while travelling, or when visiting a loved one in the hospital or a care facility.
How long may I keep a kit?
The Memory Maker Kits have a three-week loan period. Please check use the contents list included with the kit to verify that all the pieces are there before returning the kit. The kits may only be returned to the Wautoma Public Library.
